Oh, what a beautiful creature! That's a manatee, yes? Was this taken at an aquarium?

Thank you for sharing this photo.

I love, LOVE manatee and their Australian cousins the dugong. Beautiful, gentle giants. Dugongs can cry real tears.

Beautiful, my parents lived in Florida for about ten years. I am sorry that we missed seeing manatees in all of our annual trips.

Yes folks. It is indeed a manatee. Also called a sea cow. With a face only a mother could love, but sweet and gentle disposition. Munchkins and I went north twenty minutes to Homosassa Wildlife Park to see this fellow. There's a viewing area below ground level where one can see the fish and the manatees up close. Taking this shot was an afterthought, as I didn't think one could get a nice picture down there. I was charmed with myself at how lovely it turned out to be! For such ungainly looking creatures they're very graceful in the water.
In winter you can kayak down the nearby Withlacoochee River, and see them up close, often a mother and baby couple together. When the gulf gets too cold for them they come up the rivers looking for warmer waters.
As for the Irish gone wordless Birdy, only when hell freezes over!

I imagine it's quite a restful life being a manatee. Or indeed a cat. Love the picture. I wonder how the fish feel about the manatee?

Please don't stay wordless for long!

Life is anything but restful for manatees these days, unfortunately, thanks to hotshots in speed boats with deadly propellers.

How glorious! I spent a couple of hours snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef last year and once I'd gotten over my fear of sharks, I was just entranced by the life and the colours under the water. It's magical, isn't it?
