I Love The Colour Purple, But Not On My Nose!

"I'm off to bed dear," he said.
"I'll be in in a minute," I answered.
I wasn't trying to lie. But I did.

While the OC was up north, playing rocket scientist for two years, I developed some bad habits. One was staying up ridiculously late. Doing what, you ask? No prizes for guessing!

Since his return, I've been trying to change my evil ways, and retire when he does, so I'm not still imitating a corpse when he's up and prowling for coffee. But you know how they say it takes something like twenty one repetitions of a new habit to kick an old one out the door?

Well, some nights are better than others.

Last night I fell off the wagon, trying to catch up with reading and commenting. In the wee hours I was creeping, ever so quietly, into the bedroom, trusting my feet to remember their way to the bathroom. Trying to be stealthy and not wake him, when

CRASH!

The wall reared up and attacked me.

I heard the sickening crunch of bone, or maybe it was cartilage, against drywall, and stumbled to the bathroom to check for splinters, feeling sure I must have broken my nose. To my surprise, when I turned on the light, my nose appeared to be intact. But oh, how it smarted! I ran to get some ice and packed it around the ache, groaning softly all the while. I needn't have worried about waking him up. I could have knocked myself unconscious and he would have tripped over my crumpled form in the morning before he realized anything was amiss....

"Oh my God, what happened to your nose?" at breakfast.

"While you were sleeping, darlin', I was set upon by a wall.

You might not want to walk anywhere with me for a few days. You'd be sure to get some dirty looks.........."

Seeing that I was alright, he was amused to an unseemly degree.

He keeps me around for my entertainment value.

I'm just happy I didn't break my nose, or my glasses, for all the good they did me in the dark. Maybe what I really need are some night vision goggles.

Or....could it be that simple?...... to go to bed early!

Oh, my gosh! Well, yes, he certainly would get some dirty looks! LOL

I find that during the winter, I like to go to bed earlier and get up earlier. This morning it was 5.30 a.m.!!

Purple suits you. So sorry for the pain.

I think you should do what suits you. Stay up late if you wish. Put the lights on bang around....that's what they ( men ) do .

Oh, those blasted walls! We have a table that is always attacking people at our house, especially poor Climber it really hates him.

Fixit and I have the same problem; he starts really early these days and has to have an early night. And I'll think I'll just check my emails quickly before I go to bed and 2-3 hours later I stagger off to join him.

This was hilarious! But,....I do think that anyone who would leave a sweet young thing like you alone for two years (to take care of your youngsters and his oldsters) should figure out that you are entitled to your own time schedule. My DH and I are opposites and he goes off to bed and I follow a couple hours later. In the morning, he entertains himself while I sleep and I don't feel guilty at all. Most of the housework is still mine and he has a wicked golf habit, so I am entitled to read or quilt...neither one of us has much life expectancy left, so....to each his own. The only difference between you and me is that I know where my walls are planted!

I'm so sorry Molly, but I do have to chuckle just a little bit. And add me to the list of others just like you -- I so love to stay up late on the computer even if I have to listen to the complaints about it. I'm a night person. He's not. Oh well. ;-)

Hope your normal color returns soon!

Alas, my Sweetie awakens if a mouse hiccups a mile away in the forest, so we have to go to bed together if I am not to wake Her.

However, I sleep like King Tut's mummy, so She could probably get up at some night, invite a few elephants and the guys from Metallica inside for a wild party, and then climb back in bed a few hours later without my knowing a thing.

Ai yi yi! There's the bruise to the nose and the bruise to the dignity! I'm glad you're in one piece with your profile unaltered.

I dare say that having the OC back is a bit like being newly married again, having to establish a schedule and a routine. It will work itself out after a bit, and hopefully leave you time for at least a few bad habits!

Oh, poor Molly's nose.

You might parlay this into some emotional blackmail, if you were so inclined, since people are likely to assume he caused your bruises.

Not that I would ever do such a thing. I'm just saying... Perhaps a little Mollycoddling is in order.

I am so glad you are ok. I recently plummeted to the floor flat on my nose, & one knee, as I bent to pat the dog.
Lying there, feeling my nose was broken, where my glasses had ground into the bone, Gom came to my 'rescue'.Pah! The muffled laughter was cruelty!!
I do feel computers are something of a health hazard. I keep burning my spinach!

Ouch! Hope your nose gets better quickly. A long time ago I had to get up at 2:30 AM Monday to drive back to my hometown to go to work. I was in a hurry and (more than) half asleep and ran right into the half-open bedroom door! Ended up holding an ice pack for the 2 1/2 hour drive and got a nice double-black eye and LOTS of questions from co-workers, friends and family. Embarrassing!
