Flitting Without Focus

A new page on the calendar. And a D-minus in blogging. A few diehards occasionally hint that it's time for another post and, believe me, there's a backlog of abortive attempts. I get the initial idea but then lose my focus. Enough with excuses. Let's see if I can focus long enough for a brief update.

But where to start? There's the rub. Too many fragments of this, that and a thousand other things swirling about in my head. I've been in hyperactive mode these past several months. With summer winding down, the butterflies are frantically flitting from flower to flower back near the compost pile which you wouldn't pick out of ten choices as a great location for taking photographs, but there I am, dancing after them, camera swinging, pleading with them to hold still for just a second --- on the passion flower or tall daisies they seem so fond of. Doomed to failure. They land, I focus and just as I click, they flit away. At least I'm not wasting reams of film. For every half decent shot I erase twenty five.

I think butterflies invented hyperactivity and/or attention deficit disorder. Maybe that's why I like them so much. Kindred spirits.Trying to pack their dwindling days with all the flitting and dancing and flower smelling possible.

Not to mention picking a thousand daisy seeds out of my britches. The price for prancing about in the weeds by the compost pile for a few good shots and forty duds.

What Dianne Said!!! It's so nice to see you back to blogging again. I have faith that you'll score much higher this time around LOL. Did you go "home" this summer???

I love your orange photos theme, intentional or otherwise.

Very, very familiar.
I too love being able to delete a zillion failed photos.
And am awed at your butterfly captures.

Ohhhh! I'm loving this! Feels like old times. There you all were all these months and me off with the fairies. This could be a solid B I'm thinking...which might spur me to try for an A!

Diane --- Our compost pile would blush to hear it has such a fancy name. It is merely an area at the (way) back of our garden where we dump kitchen waste and garden clippings and turn them under. What brought it up in the world was our war on the passion vine. Little did we know when we planted it, hopefully, that it would not only thrive but turn into a monster! It climbs over everything, grows a foot if you turn your back for a minute, and I'm constantly ripping it out by the yard and tossing it on the compost pile. It's a love/hate relationship. I hate it's ambition to take over the world, but oh! The flowers! I let it go wild on the compost pile and lie in wait for the butterflies!

Anna --- Good to be back. I've been "gonna" for months and I finally leaped. No,I have not been "home" this year but I did have some cousins visiting recently. Next best thing.... I know you took a trip in that general direction. Will have to go catch up and read all about it.

Ali --- Actually I only realised I had a color theme when you mentioned it! Orange certainly does come to mind this time of year.

EC --- I do love my digital camera and its delete button. I am of that age that I remember when we used to take our roll of film to the chemist's in town, then wait an agonizing week to get the pictures. And so often they consisted only of shots that we would instantly delete now....

SK --- I do kind of feel like a stranger in town! But I'm sure I'll find my way back to all my old haunts eventually.

still lovely shots of fleeting moments. digital cameras do have their uses...I can just press the shutter button on mine and keep it down..and just choose the best. Much easier than shooting off a roll of film and hoping for the one good one...
Nice to see you back xx
